Anyone Can Cook

Yes, you heard yourself right! Anyone can cook.

A little chef is jumping inside all of us to come out and showcase their creative self to this world. So, what’s stopping you?

I know what you’re thinking right now, to cook Tasty Food one has to be a pro, need a lot of learning and training, but that’s not true, to become a good chef you just have to believe in yourself, that’s the only trait one needs, to cook tasty food.

Cookery is not rocket science, it’s just the mixture of a variety of ingredients in the right quantity, at the right temperature, and the right timing. And, the beauty of cooking is that everyone can prepare their recipe for a particular dish with a different taste, as there are no set rules to prepare a dish. Only the base of a dish remains the same rest you can make it with a lot of variations. In India, we can experience this very often, in every couple of miles the taste of a dish changes according to the taste buds of the people living there. Even a simple dish is prepared in so many ways that it will confuse you, which is the original recipe to prepare that particular dish because the aroma and the flavors coming out of the dish are so good, that it will make you forget the previous one.

How “I” started cooking, this is an interesting one- Back in 2011, during the winter season, my parents had to leave for Nathdwara to attend an inauguration function of my uncle’s house, and due to some reason I had to stay back, so I called my cousins to stay with me. We decided to hang out in the evening and then have dinner outside, everything was sorted; my parents left for Nathdwara. In the evening around 6:30 pm when we were all set to leave, we found out that one of our bikes got punctured, and with the saddened faces we had to drop our plan, but then the biggest challenge in front of us was, now what are we gonna eat? and who was gonna cook? We were looking at each other’s faces. If we compare those days with present times, those were the black days as there was no Zomato or Swiggy and no Uber or Ola.

I called my mother and told her about the whole situation. Then she told me why don’t you cook for yourself, it’s no rocket science. I had no other option, so I asked her for the easiest dish which I could make at that time with the available ingredients, and she guided me on how to make it. That night I did my first kitchen and prepared “Idli Fry” for myself and my cousins, though it took me “forever” to prepare it, fortunately, I made a pretty good idli fry that night.

I know it is very easy in today’s scenario if we face such a situation we can get food or we can get to food with just a click. But many a time there are situations where we have to cook.

So, stand up from your couch, wear an apron, enter the kitchen, pick up a knife and start cooking. Whatever your heart says, what your stomach craves for!

And believe me, whatever we make from our heart, it always tastes good.

Bon Appétit!

  1. That was such a simple yet encouraging blog. To be honest, I am not fond of cooking but after reading this blog , surely I am gonna get up, walk to the kitchen, put on my apron and cook something. The author of this blog has very smoothly portrayed cooking as a creative skill, which is hidden in every individual. Just like dancing, singing, painting can be our hidden talents, so can be cooking. Looking forward for more such blogs.

  6. This was a motivational blog for me as I have no interest in cooking at all. Even though this experience of author dates back to an era where there were virtually no online food delivery services, it still teaches me that we should not be too dependent on technology, as by cooking we develop ourselves only and we become more creative as and when we prepare more and more dishes. And creativity is an essential part in today’s world as businesses are becoming more and more dynamic. Also there might be situations in life where we have no access to technology, in those scenarios our cooking skills only will ensure our survival.

  7. I had no desire to cook before reading this blog, and I had always assumed that cooking was not my cup of tea. However, your blog has given me a lot of inspiration so that I may try to create some excellent dishes myself. And this blog assists me in discovering my new interest within myself. Everything is significant in life, in my opinion, because we always learn new things when we need to. However, this blog has assisted me in making changes in my life, and I have learned that we should learn everything regardless of any reason or circumstance.

  9. To Cook food – most important thing is that one has to believe in him/herself. According to me there is a chef inside Anyone who knows how to mix ingredients and select specific type and mix it well and present it beautifully. Devang you have rightly said in the blog that everyone has its own recipe for particular dishes and even a simple dish can be made special using various recipes to cook it.

  10. This blog was mix of so many things. It was sometime motivating and also telling how to solve any problem. I personally found so many things relatable to myself. Cooking is something which in India automatically gets associated with the ladies. People don’t expect a male to cook. And while living with the family males hardly gets chance to cook. I personally started cooking when I left my home for my higher education. It was need of the situation which force me to learn cooking. This blog actually refresh my memories.

  11. This blog reminded me of the movie “ratatouille”.
You must be imaginative, strong-hearted. You must try things that may not work, and you must not let anyone define your limits because of where you come from. Your only limit is your soul. What I say is true – anyone can cook…but only the fearless can be great.

  17. I completely agree with the topic of the blog, as cooking is no longer a gender-specific activity. Cooking for myself or others brings me great joy and allows me to learn a lot at the same time. I recall cooking noodles/pasta or tea late at night with my friends during graduation and enjoying the food and the process of cooking. Cooking is a pleasurable activity, as stated in the blog, and no one needs to be serious when doing so. It was a very pleasant blog, and I hope to see more food-related blogs in the future.
